About

Research, to me, is structured curiosity.

Kirsten Hosic

I'm a UX researcher with more than eight years spent in some of the most technical corners of B2B SaaS: security, cloud observability, and developer tooling. I have a PhD, which mostly means I learned how to sit with a hard question long enough to ask a better one.

My work tends to live where the stakes are high and the answers aren't obvious. I lead foundational and generative research in fast-moving domains, and I care just as much about what happens after the study: turning insight into strategy a team will actually act on.

Lately I've been building research capacity itself. I design systems and AI tooling that help whole teams run rigorous studies, and I grow communities of practice where researchers and designers sharpen each other. The most lasting thing a senior researcher can do is make everyone around them a little more curious, and a little more rigorous.

I try to hold strong craft loosely. I'd rather be usefully wrong on the way to the truth than comfortably vague. And I think the best research feels a bit like hospitality: making room for someone to tell you the thing you didn't know to ask.

IBM

Mar 2026 — Present

Lead UX Research Strategist

  • Lead foundational and generative research for the Security Lifecycle Management space, shaping product strategy in a rapidly evolving, technical domain.
  • Scale research capacity by building a Senior UX Researcher Agent in Claude and IBM Bob, so designers can run and synthesize studies with minimal guidance.
  • Optimize participant recruitment pipelines and established a collaborative UXR community to share best practices.
  • Mentor junior researchers, championing their development and readiness for high-complexity work.

Google

May 2022 — Dec 2025

Senior UX Researcher

  • Strategic research lead for Cloud Observability and AI Agent products, consulting with senior leadership to shape long-term design vision in high-stakes problem spaces.
  • Led a 4-person team on the MPU Program — a mixed-methods study of 293+ enterprise accounts — surfacing core Jobs-to-be-Done gaps and redefining the 12-month Cloud Monitoring and AI strategy.
  • Ran foundational research on AI agents that uncovered the testing and evaluation pain points behind a new GCP product, de-risking it and cutting developer time-to-production.
  • Earlier, as UX Researcher IV, paired survey data with interviews to redesign Metrics Explorer (88% preference, 89% private-preview opt-in) and simplified the query tool, cutting query-building time by 32%.

Red Hat

Apr 2021 — Apr 2022

Senior UX Researcher

  • Designed and ran a 4-week longitudinal diary study with enterprise participants to evaluate the Quay UI, surfacing "blue sky" opportunities for its dashboards.
  • Scaled research capacity 2x across the org by mentoring designers and product partners on recruitment and evaluative methods.

Rapid7

Aug 2018 — Mar 2021

UX Researcher

  • Built an end-to-end research practice from scratch and led it for InsightIDR and MDR — the highest-NPS products in Rapid7's portfolio as of 2020.
  • Research on a new network traffic feature pinpointed three primary hurdles, driving a 25% drop in customer failure rates and a 13% lift in satisfaction.

Northeastern University

Sep 2013 — Aug 2018

Human Behavior Researcher · PhD

  • Designed studies on the mechanisms of human behavior — empathic negotiation, accuracy in reading personality — and directed a team of three.
  • Applied multilevel models, ANOVAs, and regression to messy real-world data — the analytical rigor that underpins my UX practice today.
